Situation
A programme of maintenance work was planned for a multi-platform field offshore. A large accommodation barge was chartered to provide accommodation for workers who would travel back and forth to multiple platforms within the field by boat each day. Concerns were raised as the operator did not have a robust and accurate method of managing personnel movements.
Solution
EPIC installed a comprehensive POB, shuttle and mustering system on the accommodation barge which was supported by UPS to ensure continued operation during a power outage. A fully redundant wireless network was installed and handheld readers were provided which could be used during shuttle or muster operations.
Outcome
Personnel travelling between the separate platforms were managed safely and effectively while the Smart-Trac mustering system provided a robust and highly effective way of managing the multi-cultural workforce. The wireless network allowed the handhelds to be used for multiple functions which reduced the total cost of the project while improving the flexibility and redundancy of the system.
